Burden Glassware

Made from fine grain concrete and glass, my goal with this project was to create a functional statement piece that utilized basic geometric proportions to embody elegance. Visually, this piece brings unity to any space with minimal presence. The cool materials create a daunting atmosphere that accompanies the weighted experince. The use of this material symbolizes the weight of the action the user is taking. More than 27 million people in America suffer from alcohol use disorder each year, which effects families and relationships far beyond the user. This project began as a simple sketch in 2024. It was revived for the Vignelli Impact Student Exhibition that took place in 2025, in the Vignelli Center for Design Studies. This piece was examined and critiqued by industry leading designers, and further chosen as a finalist to be showcased in New York Design Week, in St. Peters Church, designed by Lella and Massimo Vignelli. I was prompted to design through the Lense of the Vignelli philosophy, thinking about timelessness, simplicity, and integrity. I was lead to a personally meaningful design, an object that completes a space while provideing physical and philosophical utility.
